Pivotal and Hortonworks jointly create Hadoop standard management tools

Pivotal is going to cooperate with Apache Hadoop distribution supplier Hortonworks on the open source project, Apache Ambari provides a set of tools and API to regulate, manage and monitor Hadoop cluster. Their collaboration will help improve Hadoop as an enterprise-level applications and will significantly enhance the Hadoop ecosystem.

Ambari aims to provide a set of standard management tools to make Hadoop easier operated. Currently many suppliers have a strong interest and have done a lot of investment to Hadoop. They are committed to promote the open source distributed computing architecture to be more humane – these provide the foundation for Ambari project.

To make Hadoop more attractive to the enterprises, Hortonworks recently received a $ 50 million equity investment from Hewlett-Packard Company. And now Hortonworks gets another strong partner Pivotal – EMC and spin-off company of VMwareVMware which led by former VMware CEO Paul Maritz.

The target of Pivotal is the enterprise software developers, enterprise-class Hadoop is an important part of this target. Pivotal has already invested heavily in Hadoop, it has its own distributed and complementary modules, such as HAWQ, GemFire and Pivotal Command Center.

“Apache Hadoop project is critical for us to achieve maximum business value”, Jamie Buckley, vice president of product management Pivotal said. “An open-source, scalable and independent supplier of application, manage services in a standardized manner is beneficial to the entire ecosystem, which increases customers’ choice and lower the operating costs, and will ultimately promote the development of Hadoop.”

Pivotal encourage engineers to install, configure and manage capacity for Ambari, meanwhile, Pivotal honor its commitments to old customers and will help them to get benefit from this cooperation.
