Facebook might invest $300 million to build the first Asian Data center in Taiwan

The Changhua officer from Taiwan revealed that Facebook has plan to build data center in Changhua, predicting it will invest 10 billion NTD($300 million), reports Digitimes.

Changhua county is close to Changhua high-speed rail station. It is convenient for traveling.

It is reported that Facebook authorized consulting company to do investigation in Changhua concerned the land resource in October. It continued to send technical staffs to explore the local electric power and water supplies. They were negotiating with the local govenment concerned the investment.

Facebook confirmed that it is looking for the right location to build the data center. It doesn’t made the final decision yet.

Facebook plans to invest $300 million to built the data center. The Changhua officer claimed that the government will acution the land at 80,000 NTD per square meters. Facebook settles on a land of 6 hectare, valuing at 1.4 billion NTD. But the data center scale might reach to 20 hectare at last.

Its Changhua data center might become the 6th one that Facebook builds in the world. It will be the first one in Asia.

Facebook announced to build the 5th data center in Fort Worth, Texas in July, generating electricity with wind power. Mashable claimed that Fort Worth data center showed its ambitious to explore the international business.

Facebook revealed that its montly activate users in Taiwan is 15 million, considering as the most popular social networking service. It expressed its willingness to build a small-scale group in Taibei in January in order to provide better technical support for Taiwanese enterprises and app developers.
