There was upheaval at Reddit as its CEO Ellen Pao resigned.
Reddit made an announcement on July 10 to confirm this news. And the company appointed its co-founder Steve Huffman as the company’s new chief officer.
Sam Altman revealed that Pao’s resignation came in peace with the company. She made the mutual agreement with the company.
Altman wrote: ” the employees appreciate Ellen’s contributions to the company as well as the technology industry. Ellen brought focus to Chaos, and attracted a world-class team of executives and business growth. She made a great efforts to changed perceptions at Reddit and set a good example in the technology industry.”
Altman continued that Ellen Pao will remain as a advisor to the board at Reddit by the end of 2015. He hopes she could make more useful contributions for the company. And the company is also happy for Steve Huffman’ back. Product and community are two important sections for the company and the board was finding a leader who are both good at these two sections. Steve meets the requirement.
He criticized some Reddit users as their disagreements to Pao during his service in the company.
He pointed out the Reddit community should learn to balance the authenticity and compassion to be a great community. Steve faces much pressure to work as Ellen started to reach this goal.
The users could keep disagreements towards the leaders, but death threats are not allowed. The company will get the threats banned if they continue.
The Reddit bosses made an apology to the community after it fired a popular staff member that caused moderators to revolt.
Several mods set subreddits to private and took other sections of the stei down as Pao fired Victoria Taylor.
